What Season is Right For Your Senior Session?

With each new season, there comes new scenery, fashion choices, and location options for senior sessions! While we can make any season work beautifully, one season might be a better fit for you and your portraits for a variety of reasons. No, this is not all about the weather! There are some very practical reasons you might choose one season over another, such as school deadlines for pictures or sports schedules! These tips for choosing the right season for your senior session will help you decide which option is best for you!

What Season is Right For Your Senior Session?

Summer

As summer is rapidly coming to a close, I wanted to start here, as summer marks the beginning of the senior picture season schedule.  I know, you haven’t even started your senior year IN high school yet, but when the class before you walked across the stage at the end of spring, you became a part of the new senior class! At this point, senior pictures might not even be on your radar, but it is actually a really popular time to have senior portraits taken! Many yearbooks have fall deadlines so summer sessions allow you to have your pictures ready to meet those deadlines. If you have a busy extracurricular schedule during the school year with sports practices and games, other enrichment classes or activities, or meetings, summer is your best option. Besides, there is an endless supply of sunshine! Summer is perfect if you love crop tops, shorts, sun dresses, or a more tropical look to your pictures!

For those who aren’t seniors yet, be sure to keep this in mind in the months ahead and reach out early to get your first choice of a summer date!

Fall

Fall is right around the corner, so if you are considering a fall session, NOW is the time to act!

Fall is the perfect season for seniors who want warmer tones in their images! While many people just love the fall weather, and there is nothing wrong with that, because I am one of them, scheduling your pictures now is also very practical! The second semester of your high school senior year is crazy! It is nice to have them done so you can enjoy more of the final months of your senior year and not have another “to-do” looming over your head!

Fall is also perfect for seniors with an early release option, as fall sessions typically occur earlier in the day due to daylight savings and the sun setting earlier!

Winter

While winter might not be everyone’s first choice for a season for obvious reasons, it can work really well for those seniors who want a winter themed shoot, are involved in snow sports, or who just really want a magical, snowy backdrop. If you choose a winter senior session, you’ll be wearing lots of cozy layers, but you can elevate your winter look with stylish scarves, hats, boots, and jackets. If you snowboard, play hockey, or participate in another winter/snow sport, we can incorporate those items into your session to better reflect you! Winter also stirs up warm and cozy feelings as the holidays approach, which makes it the perfect choice if you want a holiday vibe to your session.

Spring

As the winter thaw occurs and spring emerges it creates a beautiful backdrop for senior portraits with blossoming flowers at every turn. Spring is the best option for seniors who want to wait until just before their graduation to take pictures. If you a senior who can’t miss school for your senior portraits, then spring is a great option as these shoots tend to start later in the day due to longer daylight hours.
