Graduation Gift Thank You Etiquette

graduation gift thank you etiquette

As the school year has come rushing to an end, many of the graduating seniors are preparing to celebrate their amazing accomplishment with their friends and family at their graduation party! Graduation parties are so much fun! I love celebrating these young adults and all that they have accomplished. For all my 2022 and 2023 graduates out there, let’s talk about graduation gift THANK YOU etiquette!

To commend you on your hard work and help you in the next stage of life, many people will give you amazing graduation gifts at your party!  It is always best to follow up that gift with a heartfelt thank you note to let your loved ones know how much you appreciate them and their thoughtfulness. You might end up writing a lot of cards! To help, here are a few tips on thank you etiquette to help you as you write out your thank you cards!

Tips For Writing Thank You Cards:

Tip 1 in graduation gift thank you etiquette

Tip 01: Thank Each Guest For The Specific Gift They Gave You

As you open up each card and gift, keep a record of each gift and who gave it. This will make it very easy for you to reference back and know exactly what gift each person gave you. When you thank them for that specific gift they gave, it shows how much you care and that you took notice of their generosity.

Tip 02: Include A Note About How You Plan On Using The Gift Or Why You Love It

People love to know that their gift is appreciated and being put to use! Maybe you are putting all that money away to pay for your first semester in college, your textbooks, or for new clothes for that job you just landed! Whatever it is, tell them! Your guests will love knowing how they are helping you in your next chapter in life.

Tip 03: Consider Sharing A Fun Moment You Had With Them At Your Celebration

You want your guests to know just how much you appreciate not only their gift, but them and their time. Let them know how much it meant to you to have them celebrate with you at your party! This again shows you truly care.

Tip 04: Try Not To Write All Your Thank You Notes At Once

Writing all your thank you cards at once can lead to fatigue, sloppy handwriting, and generic words. Breaking up the writing is less overwhelming and it will save your hand from getting tired! This also leads me to the last tip, tip number five;

Tip 05: Break up Writing Over A Few Days To Ensure Your Words Are Thoughtfully Written

The other con to writing alllll your cards at once, is that you tend to repeat phrases and stop making the cards personal. Breaking up the writing will ensure that you are writing cards with meaning and thought.
